The most commonly planted grape varietal in Austria, Grüner Veltliner is also grown in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, the United States, New Zealand and Australia.
Known as a food-friendly wine, its flavor can vary significantly from region to region. Grüner Veltliner grapes grown on the steep slopes of the Danube west of Vienna exhibit a marked minerality, while those grown in warmer regions feature stronger aromatics and spicy notes.
